About Driehaus
Estate:
The Driehaus Estate is located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. It is a beautifully restored Georgian home with some of the
loveliest acreage in the Lakes area. The property is 36 acres with
630 feet of lake frontage on the banks of Geneva Lake. The structure was built in 1906 by Norman W. Harris, founder of The
Harris Bank in Chicago. With an entrance hall soaring 20 feet high, a 12 foot wide
staircase, and a magnificent circular second floor balcony, this courtly
home comes from a time when elegance reined supreme. The Olmsted brothers, noted landscape architects of New
York’s Central Park, designed the grounds with beautiful gardens, a
pond, and a beautiful ½ mile driveway sweeping through the native woods.
The main entrance road runs through nearly a half mile of virgin maple
forest left standing from the time of the Potawatomi Indians.
The massive red brick mansion, with its lofty colonnade and porches, is
set off by magnificent landscaping while the broad sweeping lawns seem to
harmonize and convert all of the various features into one harmonious
picture. The home has 12 bedrooms and 15 bathrooms and is
approximately 22,000 square feet in size. Each of the bedrooms still
has the original louvered doors which allow the cool summer breezes from
the windows to circulate throughout the second story. The entire
house is ornately decorated with lovely antiques from Richard’s personal
collection.
